Access Omaha Unplugged

Living in Omaha

The CD-ROM opens with an invitation by chamber president, Bob Bell, to become better acquainted with the city by taking a short time to look around, to follow their specific interests. It then branches to four main selections: Living in Omaha, Doing Business in Omaha, Conventions and Tourism and the Access Pages (advertising). In Living in Omaha, the user can select from categories such as the arts, sports and recreation, education, living in Omaha and quality of life. Within these categories, users will find movies, slide/audio shows, text/picture books and activities on virtually every subject relating to life in Omaha. The most recent addition to the CD-ROM includes several 360 degree panoramic views taken around Omaha. Want to know what type of home you can construct for $250,000 in Omaha? There are numerous examples. Interested in how the test scores of Omaha students compare to students in other states? Create your own comparison and watch as the results graphically animate on to the screen. Like golf? Move your cursor (a golf ball, of course) from green to green on the Omaha map and see what each course has to offer.

Other Highlights from Access Omaha

The CD-ROM contains 48 videos, 75 audios, 1200 photographs and over 450 text files. In addition, there are dozens of activities, databases and website links. Visually, the CD-ROM has a very rich, graphics intensive look. Every category screen (approximately 500) has an original graphic montage background. These backgrounds incorporate three to seven photographs each. This technique enhances user interest as they never find themselves staring at blank screen or a sterile plain background. The average user tends to spend about an hour on the disk and it has earned high marks for intuitive navigation, strong visual interest, quality graphics, a broad variety of activities, quality videos and comprehensive information.
